Feeding a fasting person ::

The Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, “Whoever feeds a fasting person will have a reward like that of the fasting ...

person, without any reduction in his reward.” [At-Tirmidhi, authenticated by Al-Albani.]

It’s time now to get prepared for the most blessed month of the year. I’m sure we’re all making necessary arrangements to buy the needed grocery, scheduling family visits, and getting to know the programs in our local mosques. Alhamdulilah, this is a good start. However, don’t forget that the ultimate purpose of this month is to increase our iman. We have to leave this Ramdhan in particular with a stronger bond with Allah, ‘Azza wa Jaal, since we can’t be sure we’ll live to see another one.

Therefore, in addition to your fast and night prayer, utilize other oppertunities to accumulate reward. One of the best ways to do that is to feed a fasting person. Subhanna Allah, read the hadith above again…why let such a reward pass you by? Then, let’s commit to help feed at least one fasting person this Ramdhan, Insha’Allah!

You can do this by:

1. Cooking food at home and putting it into small plastic/foil containors. You can pass these containors to people you know are in need of food.

2. Making arrangments with your local mosque on how you can help support the Iftar Al-Sa’em program (feeding the people who fast).

3. Contact your local charity to make a financial contribution to help feed those who are fasting whether locally or internationally.

4. See if you know anyone (or you can ask your family/friends) who needs food supply such as rice, dates, sugar, etc. and buy it for them.

These are but a few ideas to help you get started. I’m sure you are more familiar with your community and how you can participate. I ask Allah to reward you for your efforts and all of us, and help guide us to performing good deeds always.
